In a nod to this year’s 27th Annual Bach & Beyond Baroque Music Festival program theme, the Opera House presents the 2022 film inspired by the incredible true story of composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-George.
The illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner, Joseph Bologne (Kelvin Harrison Jr. in a tour-de-force performance) rises to improbable heights in French society as a celebrated violinist-composer and fencer, complete with an ill-fated love affair and a falling out with Marie Antoinette (Lucy Boynton) and her court.
“a portrait of a thrillingly toxic friendship, Chevalier hits all the right notes.” – London Evening Standard
“grand, sweeping, and lavishly appointed.” – Washington Post
Rated PG-13 for Suggestive Material, Some Strong Language, Thematic Content and Violence, 107 mins
